2017 Sweat Shaker Photos

I drove up to the trails at Mid Michigan Community College on Saturday and spent a few hours taking photos of the 2017 Sweat Shaker XC Mountain Bike Race. I’m still in the process of editing the 300+ images but have uploaded about half of them to the Junk Miles Media Smugmug site for purchasing (if you desire). The rest will be added in the next 48 hours.

In the coming days, I’m sure I will be posting up some of my favorite images from the race. Looking forward to getting to more races this summer, and more importantly getting back up to MMCC to actually ride my bike!

Thanks for looking.

Some Recent Faves

It’s been a busy summer thus far, but thing thins are starting to settle down and I’m getting into a rhythm of riding, shooting, and hopefully more posting here. Remember, if you dig what you see on this site, you can always follow me on Instagram @thesoiledchamois.

For now here is a batch of some of my favorite shots from the past few weeks, some of which (like the green wheat above), were taken with my new Nikon D500. Most of the others were taken with my go to on bike camera, the Fuji X-T1.

Thanks for looking.

A Woodsy Roll

It’s been roughly 8 months since my tires last rolled on singletrack. A variety of issues contributed to that lack of singletrack riding, most of which was some ongoing back and hip pain when mountain biking. However I am pretty geeked to say that finally got out this past week.

Catch Up Photo Dump

Between trying to get miles in, getting sick for a few days, and a hectic free-time schedule filled with driving around Michigan for my boy’s soccer games and practices, there has been little time to update here. So with that said, here’s a quick update of some of of my favorite photos from the past few weeks.

Souls

It is often said  “Eyes are the windows into the soul.” Over the years I have taken to thinking of my eyes looking through the window to the soul. Not sure if that is good or bad, especially since much of what I see on the other side is unknown blackness. But hey, it works for me and my ongoing weltschmerz. I suppose a therapist could help, but I think taking more photos and reading too much into them works just as well, and will be cheaper in the long run.

I’ve taken quite a few of these photos over the years, some here you may have seen before, some are new. Enjoy making up your own metaphors for lost, saved, and damaged souls as you view.

Now I’m off to the library to seek out some Nietzsche.

Thanks for looking.

Some New Wheelz

My 13 year old son Brennan recently discovered the joys of skateboarding during his Spring Break. First he tore up the house up looking of his old skateboard; you know, the one he never used and I threw out just before we moved houses last April (Shhhhh!). So he picked up an inexpensive new board a few days ago, then quickly ordered new wheels, that could handle the streets of Michigan a little better (his words, not mine, I know nothing about skateboarding, the closest I come to skateboarding is wearing Vans).

Rolling Along

The past couple months have been filled with squeezing in as many miles as possible as I attempt to get myself back into some sort of shape. The weather hasn’t always cooperated, and I’ve found myself riding paved roads more than I like, but that hasn’t stopped me from continuing to snap some photos. I mean it’s a scientific fact [not really] that being creative, burns twice as many calories as intense cycling.

Beard of Zeus Faves

The act of actually racing my bike gets further and further away from my mind, as the act of photographing races gets further and further a part of reality. With that in mind I drove up to Traverse City this past Saturday to shoot some photos at the 2017 Beard of Zeus race. The race was the Short’s Brewing Fat Bike Series finale, and the 90 minute cyclocross-like format really lends itself to moving around the course and catching the action in various locations.

Shots From The Road

We’ve been lucking out with the weather here in Michigan lately so I’ve been trying to get as much time in on the bike as I can in an attempt to shed excess blubber. The dirt roads are riddled with rim busting pot holes, standing water, and deep rutted mud; so I’ve made do with paved roads. Not my first choice, but better than nothing.
