Catch Up Photo Dump

Between trying to get miles in, getting sick for a few days, and a hectic free-time schedule filled with driving around Michigan for my boy’s soccer games and practices, there has been little time to update here. So with that said, here’s a quick update of some of of my favorite photos from the past few weeks.

Some New Wheelz

My 13 year old son Brennan recently discovered the joys of skateboarding during his Spring Break. First he tore up the house up looking of his old skateboard; you know, the one he never used and I threw out just before we moved houses last April (Shhhhh!). So he picked up an inexpensive new board a few days ago, then quickly ordered new wheels, that could handle the streets of Michigan a little better (his words, not mine, I know nothing about skateboarding, the closest I come to skateboarding is wearing Vans).

Fat Nats in Black & White

In the past I was never a huge fan of black and white photography. However I know what I like when I see it. In my own photography (picture taking) I’ve grown to accept that some shots are just better in black and white. Often the absence of color adds to the drama and feel of a photo. Because of that I continue to work on finding my own style when it comes to black and white.

I was really happy with some of the photos I took at Nats, yet I couldn’t stop tinkering with a few, working to find the look I wanted for the shots in black and white. Some of these photos you would have seen in my first post after Nats, but I’ve included them again because I tweaked them to get a consistent look to my black and white processing.

Frost Cross ’16 Part 1, The Black and Whites

Last weekend was the second edition of the late season Frost Cross cyclocross race in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Being that I live within walking distance of the venue in Mt. Pleasant it was sort of a no-brainer to take a couple hours to walk over and shoot some (amateur) photos at the race.

Holiday Down Time

wet-tree

Wednesday morning my family and I took off to the Fatherland (western Pennsylvania) for the Thanksgiving holiday. Most of the next four days would be filled with visiting family, eating, driving, and eating. My Black Friday goal was to sleep off my turkey coma, continue our family visiting, and if I was lucky get a window of opportunity to drive up to the mountains for a hike.

The Few

I shoot some photos almost every day, whether I’m riding or not. That doesn’t mean that everyday I get a shot I love, it just means that I shoot something. The past month seems to have been all over the place as far as my riding, shooting, and doing stuff outdoors. Still I found a few pics in my stash that I wanted to post.

Thanks for looking.

Dryer

corn-field-clouds

Dry corn under dark autumn clouds. (Nikon D7100).

Last week I found myself out my bike in wet, rainy, and foggy conditions more than once. That was fun, and made for some interesting photos, but it also took toll on my drivetrain, and my mojo. The next few rides were void of mud and rain, with some intermittent clouds and sun, and despite some increased wind, I have to admit I was pretty stoked to be dry.

In a Fog

foggy-dirt-road

I had the chance to get some miles in on Thursday and ride in some of the thickest fog I’ve ever seen here in central Michigan. Rain the night before made for muddy conditions, so I used my fat bike to plow through the slop, thus saving my higher end drivetrains from the gritty dirt and gravel. I also utilized a the Porcelain Rocket DSLR Slinger bag to house my Fuji X-T1, and a rear blinky to make sure I didn’t get smashed down by any tractors.

The following is a collection of photos that I captured that day using the X-T1 with the 55-200 mm lens. Thanks for looking.
