2017 Sweat Shaker Photos

I drove up to the trails at Mid Michigan Community College on Saturday and spent a few hours taking photos of the 2017 Sweat Shaker XC Mountain Bike Race. I’m still in the process of editing the 300+ images but have uploaded about half of them to the Junk Miles Media Smugmug site for purchasing (if you desire). The rest will be added in the next 48 hours.

In the coming days, I’m sure I will be posting up some of my favorite images from the race. Looking forward to getting to more races this summer, and more importantly getting back up to MMCC to actually ride my bike!

Thanks for looking.

Catch Up Photo Dump

Between trying to get miles in, getting sick for a few days, and a hectic free-time schedule filled with driving around Michigan for my boy’s soccer games and practices, there has been little time to update here. So with that said, here’s a quick update of some of of my favorite photos from the past few weeks.

Beard of Zeus Faves

The act of actually racing my bike gets further and further away from my mind, as the act of photographing races gets further and further a part of reality. With that in mind I drove up to Traverse City this past Saturday to shoot some photos at the 2017 Beard of Zeus race. The race was the Short’s Brewing Fat Bike Series finale, and the 90 minute cyclocross-like format really lends itself to moving around the course and catching the action in various locations.

In my own photography (picture taking) I’ve grown to accept that some shots are just better in black and white. Often the absence of color adds to the drama and feel of a photo. Because of that I continue to work on finding my own style when it comes to black and white.

I was really happy with some of the photos I took at Nats, yet I couldn’t stop tinkering with a few, working to find the look I wanted for the shots in black and white. Some of these photos you would have seen in my first post after Nats, but I’ve included them again because I tweaked them to get a consistent look to my black and white processing.

2017 Fat Bike Nationals

This past Saturday I drove down to Grand Rapids to watch and photograph the Men’s and Women’s Pro Fat Bike Nationals. Lucky for me the Pro races didn’t start until 11 AM so I had plenty of time to sleep in, eat breakfast, watch soccer, and drink numerous cups of coffee before making the hour and a half drive. Unlucky for the race, Grand Rapids was unusually void of snow. While the absence of snow on a January day in Grand Rapids was indeed odd, it sure made for some fast racing!
